Our Research Director Dr Mike Patane and Research Program Manager Dr Simon Odell recently visited Tasmania to meet with academic, current and potential new industry partners. Thanks to Professor Catriona Macleod for arranging such a great program.

The team discussed projects of interest with an emphasis on new products, developing project pipelines for funding, regulation of new products, market analytics, and commercial opportunities in the space of microalgae production, novel molecules as extracts, sustainability of biomass recovery and ongoing indigenous engagement.

They met with the University of Tasmania (UTAS) research team at Sandy Bay (pictured) and toured the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies Taroona and Salamanca facilities, looking at the potential for seaweed-focused projects.

MBCRC is keen to explore research capacity and strengths, helping universities bring good science to market, attracting industry and showcasing Australia’s great tech globally via Australian tech companies.
