John Gunn FTSE is one of Australia’s most respected marine scientists and research leaders, with more than 40 years’ experience spanning marine science, fisheries, climate research, Antarctic science, organisational leadership and governance. He has held senior executive positions including Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS), Chief Scientist of the Australian Antarctic Program and Deputy Chief of CSIRO’s Marine and Atmospheric Research Division.
John has more than 20 years’ experience in the governance of applied science organisations in Australia and internationally. He currently chairs the Marine Bioproducts CRC and the NCRIS Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) and has previously served as a director of several Cooperative Research Centres and AIMS. He also chaired the National Marine Science Committee.
A Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, John brings extensive expertise in scientific leadership, research strategy, industry collaboration and the application of science to support sustainable ocean industries and Australia’s blue economy.
